At Street Assist Edinburgh we aim to make sure that everyone we interact with finds a safe route home. We're here to help on Fridays and Saturdays from 2200 until 0400 but what can you do you help and keep yourself safe?
Our #endyournightright campaign highlights our key tips on how to stay safe when you're on a night out and our volunteers are available to help via our dedicated phone line. Below are some other tips and campaigns that we would recommend.
Who to contact when you can't speak to us
Speak to Venue Staff
If you need advice or help whilst at a venue report it to their staff and they'll be able to assist you.
Call NHS 24 on 111
If you think you need A&E but it's not life threatening call NHS 24 on 111.
Call Police Scotland on 101
If you need to report a crime that's already happened, you want crime prevention advice or you need to speak to your local police officer.
Call 999 for an Emergency
If there is a suspected crime nearby, a crime is in progress or there is a risk of personal injury or loss of life.
Spikeys & Stop Tops
What's a Spikey?
Spikeys are a useful tool to mitigate the risk of spiking when drinking from bottles. This anti-spiking product fits tightly in bottles, blocking the entrance from being open to having additional substances added.
Insert the Spikey into your bottle and push your straw through.
What's a Stop Top?
StopTopps are versatile drink-protectors that have been designed to deter drink spikers. They are suitable for any drinking vessel commonly found in pubs and clubs, including cans, bottles and glasses.
Peel the Stop Topp from it's backing, stick over your cup and push your straw through.
Apps you can download
Every 5 seconds the platform will update your precise location based on your speed and movement activity to identify where you are once an alert has been raised. Hollie Guard is a personal alarm, deterrent, evidence catcher and more. Providing a lot more functionality than a regular keyring alarm for absolutely anyone who has safety in mind.
StreetSafe is a service for anyone to anonymously tell us about public places where you have felt or feel unsafe, because of environmental issues, eg street lighting, abandoned buildings or vandalism and/or because of some behaviours, eg being followed or verbally abused.
We partner with Central Taxis to ensure that we can get those we help home safely. They have an app which you can download making booking taxis easier without the need for cash. Book your taxi in advance with the Central Taxis app.
Transport for Edinburgh operates the buses and trams across Edinburgh. Their app allows you to plan routes, track buses and get live transport updates.
